Have you ever felt like crying when no one is watching you? Ever felt like no one is hearing you and that you don’t have anyone left to talk to? Don’t worry because it’s just your mind working on the track that it shouldn’t have been. Anyone can encounter similar moments in life. There are situation when you suddenly start crying, even a smile seems to be a forced one, you might be accompanied by some of your close friends and family members but still you feel alone and there might be some flashbacks of memories which continue to haunt you everywhere, whatever you might be thinking about. Whether a celebrity or a common man anyone can suffer from Depression. It just feels like you are in a room of severe darkness and no light can be lit. Don’t worry just SPEAK UP!
Making yourself open towards this issue is very important and ultimately the best available option. Don’t worry about the questions like “How will they feel?”, “Is it the right time to speak about the feeling that I am going through?” The answer lies within you and you know that it’s you who have to take the initiative and speak to the people that understands you. Depression and Anxiety isn’t something that can be seen or that can be sense by people around you in most cases, it is you who is going through that feeling and there is nothing wrong. Some might be depressed because of not able to get an admission in the college they wanted in, some might not have clinched the promotion at the office, some people might have just broken up from a long relationship, some might feel depressed because they are broke and they feel helpless and some might be depressed because their children are no longer listening to them. Sometimes the case isn’t the way we think of, it is just the opposite. What if I tell you that the college in which you have got the admission will make you realize how better you are, What if you work on the next project more accurately and get a double promotion, What if there is a person just right next to you who you will get married and have a happy married life, What if your children aren’t listening to you because they are planning your next silver jubilee marriage anniversary? There might be numbers of possibilities but still we think in a negative way. It’s funny how we self-answer some of the question even without knowing the root cause and even without communicating the problem with our family members, friends, mentor or the person we believe in most. The best way to avoid any form of lack of clarity is through a direct communication.
Going through the recent statistics published on the World Health’s Day by World Health Organization (WHO) that just preceded on 7th April left me wonder about the issue of Depression and why is our society still suffering from it. Depression is affecting 58 millions in India itself and 322 millions of people all around the world. Ignoring the illness won’t make it go away. Dismiss depression at your own peril. To make the statistics more in general terms, 1 out of every 20 Indians suffers from depression. And the bitter fact is that some of us don’t even know that we are suffering from it. There are some instances in my life that make me thank to some people, I had taken Psychology as a subject on my last year of Degree College, my professor always used to tell us that we should visit psychiatric whenever we feel that we need their help. One of the work that we were given in the beginning of the academic year is visiting one. Psychiatric are humans just as us and the most friendly one. I have seen many people communicating while travelling and many of my friends talking that they are ready to go to psychiatrist but they fear, my only question is WHY? They are just Human beings as we are, they aren’t going to harm your brain. I wonder that we are living in the modernized era, still we can’t go to a Psychiatrist. Why is visiting a Psychiatrist still a taboo? Why can’t we visit him as we visit our local Physician? Why can’t we take care of our mental health the same way as we take care of our body? A continuous depression will make you thinking on various negative aspects whereas the situation might be tackle by just talking to your elders or even by visiting a Psychiatrist. As said by Gautama Buddha “Rule your mind or it will rule you”.
How funny it is that whenever we hear about psychiatrist we ought to believe that it is negative. We have make definitions about several people around us and especially among some professional people that we stay away from them. I take this opportunity to thanks every single Psychiatrist who listen to people’s problems and help them overcome it.
Movies are made on this subject matter, people have come forward to show their support and even now the Prime Minister of Our Country Shri. Narendra Modi recently while addressing to the nation have taken this issue and have shown concerns about it.
I whole heartedly thank many of the celebrities who have come forward and have shared their fight with Depression and Anxiety. The platform is staged it’s just you who have to take the initiative to SPEAK UP. This issue isn’t something that you have to stay with your entire life. Celebrities like Wayne Brady, Nicki Minaj, Ellen DeGeneres, and Lady Gaga have all came in public to share their views on their dealing with depression. Even Indian celebrities like Honey Singh, Deepika Padukone and even Shah Rukh Khan have been through that phase.
Many people suffering from Depression and Anxiety come across some people who misguide them or even make fun of them, only one thing that I need to say to those people “DON’T CARE ABOUT THEM”. Many people in the society just doesn’t know what you are going through in life and they become the umpire of your innings of life, just keep in mind they are just among one of those millions of human beings who you will come across in your entire life. Be with your family and friends who shows the positive attitude towards this little phase in your life.
Depression is just a situation, and remember situation is never bigger than any human, and neither are the problems. There are “NO PROBLEMS” in life which can’t be solved. Be strong and let the time heal the situation. Make yourself surrounded by people that cares for you and the one who understands you and will help you find a positive way out of this situation. All you need to do is stand up for yourself, Stand up to face your problems, and do it like a warrior. Make sure you set a positive example for everyone about your time fighting from depression. Make sure people come to you to find a solution out for their depression. MAKE YOURSELF AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS.
Depression and Anxiety doesn’t come in your life knocking your door, it’s you who have to notice that disorder. Depression and Anxiety isn’t seen on a particular age group, it is observe even in some young kids who might not know about the topic. Let’s spread the awareness and also help people who needs our help. Let’s help people all around us to overcome this hurdle in life and make our society dethrone the depression and anxiety. LET’S WAKE UP AND LET’S SPEAK UP.
I want to thank everyone who have helped people they know and even in some cases people that didn’t and still have helped others to overcome the Depression and Anxiety directly or indirectly.
On this occasion quote from one of the recently released movie ‘Dear Zindagi (2016)’ comes in mind said by Shah Rukh Khan “DON’T LET YOUR PAST BLACKMAIL YOUR PRESENT TO RUIN A BEAUTIFUL FUTURE”.
Thank-You for reading. Please do SHARE it with other’s to help them SPEAK UP.
